Your typical day as a Category Manager:
Using your ability to understand the retail industry, you’ll curate the relevant data to understand and successfully help our clints reach their goals. You’ll craft compelling, data-driven insights that color the competitive strategy and recommendations for clients. You’ll use your ability to translate highly complex data into usable “knowledge nuggets” that are easy to interpret and understand. You build trust with the team by providing actionable options and provide that “extra element” that keeps us at the top of our game. Of course, you’ll provide a regular cadence of reporting, provide ad hoc data points to the team, and jump in to help solve interesting and dynamic problems.
You have:
1-3 years of experience working with IRI (preferred) or Nielson and other platforms
Intellectual curiosity
Experience in Marketing, Math, Statistics, or Economic fields
Retail or CPG experience is great!
Successful history working with large data sets – and you love it!
An understanding of how to leverage shopper panel data and geodemographic data sets
Experience working with and analyzing assortment, pricing, promotion and shelving data

Responsibilities

The Company services a variety of trade channels including grocery, mass merchandise, specialty, convenience, drug, dollar, club, hardware, consumer electronics and home centers. Position Summary
The Category Manager is responsible for providing the integration of syndicated information into presentations using words and graphics, and/or category management business reviews across functions within the assigned marketing area. This role may be dedicated to one Client or may be responsible for Category Management at the division level with multiple Clients. May oversee and lead the work of Category Analysts.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Presentation Development
- Finalize all data and organize sales story for presentation to Clients, Customers and/or Business Development Manager by developing business insights that are actionable
Project/Client Management and Support
Proactively develop business growth opportunities from data analysis and present these to Company's sales team and business partners
Maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, and resolving problems
Manage and maintain ongoing relationship for category management activities
Develop Category Management relationships at Clients that establish Company's Business Intelligence Team as the go-to resource for Category Management insights and business process Best Practices.
Data Analysis/Interpretation/Application
Determine and quantify primary business opportunities and key drivers by analyzing data and provide recommendations for business improvement/growth
Support key business opportunities by recommending solutions based on applicable data
Define major business opportunities by prioritizing information to support the goals of our Clients, Customers, and Company
Data Collection
Provide information for Clients, Customers, and Business Development Managers through the use of syndicated or customer-specific data sources
Meet specific needs of requesting party by determining appropriate data selection and custom assortment
Presentation Delivery
For assigned clients, communicate business opportunities and recommend action plans by working with Clients, Customers, Sr. Managers and/or Business Development Managers
Assume the Lead Role as part of the Sales Team in presenting insights, strategies and tactics to business partners
Supervisory Responsibilities
Direct Reports
Hires, retains, trains, coaches, guides, directs, and develops direct reports using company-wide processes, tools and resources
Indirect Reports
May delegate work of others and provide guidance, direction and mentoring to indirect reports
Travel and/or Driving Requirements
Travel is an essential duty and function of this job. Driving is not an essential duty or function of this job.

Minimum Qualifications The following are the minimum job-related qualifications which an individual needs in order to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the job
Education Level: (Required) Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
(Preferred) MBA Degree or equivalent experience
Field of Study/Area of Experience: Business or related field or equivalent job-related experience
5+ years of experience in applicable field (i.e. sales and marketing agency, Customer, and/or Client)
2+ years of supervisory experience if applicable for the specific role
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Ability to make oral presentations
Analytical and research Skills
Ability to direct, lead, coach, and develop people
Skill in supervising to include delegating responsibility, training and evaluating performance
Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and web-browsers
Ability to develop strategic plans to grow the business

Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Typically requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time (66%+ each day), ability to hear the telephone, ability to enter data on a computer and may also require the ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
